New home!

Yesterday I left the school where Alex and I had been renting a little house for the last month and a half. Now that he's gone back to Canada it's not that much fun to be there, and the nuns (yes, Lunatrix living with the nuns!!) were not that nice anyways. So I took my luggage with me and got in a friend's car: "Guediawaye!!" I said, and the car drove through the late afternoon traffic to better (and less lonely) lands. Now I am living with a large family of women whose husbands live in Italy and their many many children. My room is not that nice, I am 2 hours away from town, and I am happy. This morning they made of me eating bread with olive oil for breakfast, and I made fun of their spaghetti sandwiches (!!). Oh, how much fun is to be around people!!

I won't stay long though, as today I must leave for Casamance, and then to St. Louis. I will be back the first of June to do the last interviews and go back to Europe. I've been here for one night and I know I'm going to miss them heaps!

I'll take some pics of my new home soon. This is the sign to my old house -- and in fact, I left running!!

And a picture from the collectif des femmes en lutte contre l'emigration clandestine that I particularly like.

More recent pics (mostly portraits) in flickr.
